Mayweather vs Marquez Postponed / Cancelled / Injury In Ticket Sales

The Mayweather vs Marquez fight is postponed for "Mr. HBO" himself Floyd Mayweather Jr. hurt his mouth from talking too much trash...or his wrists from throwing away those fake 100-dollar bills LOL - just kidding. Sorry, Mr. Money Mayweather injured his ribs while training according to people from Golden Boy Promotions.

Weeks ago someone in Philboxing.com, a purported insider, posted this info last June 5, 2009:

Golden Boy Promotion has to make a major decision this coming weeks for profit reasons. The proposed mega ppv fights between pbf vs. marquez is not selling well not only in tickets but also to the regular boxing sponsors tecate, cervesa and budwieser who doesnt like to back up the fight. Even the MGM grand didn't hold even a single ticket for the fight for their retail selling with hotel accomodation, while before the MGM always wanted to buy all the tickets in any major bout. According to Brad, less than 300 tickets has been sold as of this time. And theres no indication that it will surpass to 1,000 tickets this weekend. A very dismal showing for a mega fight or a ppv fight. So GBP is planning to move the schedule to August 8 and instead of PPV it will be shown for free viewing.

GBP is not new to this problem, in two weeks or three GBP will have a major announcement to move the fight because of injury to either marquez or mayweather as the reason to move the fight. They always done this every time they smell something wrong at the box office.

prettyboy.floyd_30

So its an injury caused by poor ticket sales IF we are going to believe the poster..The ticket sales receipt must have knocked Floyd Mayweather Jr. out cold....along with GBP.

But the official statement still stands...meaning the fight is postponed because Floyd Mayweather got injured in training.
They will move it to a latter date. It means we have to wait longer. I want to see this fight. As a boxing fan, I'm intrigued about the match up of two excellent counterpunchers. I mean you could even bet who would throw the first punch too anyway. I just love boxing that's why I'll watch this.

Mayweather vs Marquez Postponed! Will GBP move this from PPV to World Championship Boxing? We'll see.

I wonder if some of them made the same mistake in picking Pavlik over Hopkins a month ago. A boxer builds credibility by defying the odds... thank God Manny did it. Pacquiao proved these people wrong... lol. It turns out some so-called experts' guess were as good as ours! Experts...phooey! They only analyzed the obvious. Some of them were being prick about it and THAT DISGUSTED ME enough to bring this issue up.

Some of them don't have a clue on what they are talking about their only advantage they have a website.

So boxing experts, how does it feel getting embarrassed by Manny? LOL

These wannabees will still spew out nonsense in the future but we know better now don't we? Being a boxing expert is a comfortable job since a wrong prediction won't cost them anything. Great job.

The EXPERTS who got it right:

Nick Cafardo, Boston Globe -- Pacquiao by TKO 8
Bill Dwyre, Los Angeles Times -- Pacquiao by decision
Ed Graney, Las Vegas Review-Journal -- Pacquiao by decision
Dave Cokin, ESPNRadio1100 -- Pacquiao by decision
William Trillo -- Pound4Pound.com

Edwin Valero
Roberto Duran
Busta Rhymes
Rashad Holloway
Dennis Guillermo --- 8countnews.com
Joaquin Henson --Philippine Star

Mayweather Sr. said Oscar will rearrange Manny's face he should have seen what Manny did to Oscar. One thing about the Mayweathers, they really hate Manny - a combination of jealousy and racism on their part maybe...since they never really acknowledged him. Manny never said anything bad about Floyd Mayweather. The problem with the Mayweathers is they talk too much but can't back it up. I remember Margarito challenging Mayweather IN HIS FACE yet nothing the guy smiled sheepishly. Floyd won't even fight Cotto or Margarito. Human nature has it that you will take advantage if you think you are better that your opponent. Mayweather has said he is better than those two boxers but never challenged them. I thought you are better than them. Sheesh.

On my part, I was against the Fight but I supported Manny win or lose. You may check the earlier posts and my readers will testify in my behalf.

I still agree that this was a mismatch but I'm glad Manny is just super boxer. I'm happy too that Oscar took the "LOW ROAD" and got punished for it. He thought Manny is easy picking and was rightfully pummeled by the Filipino.

Update:
Manny will take a rest. He will fight again in June either with Hatton or Mayweather. Right now, he will take a long deserved vacation. It's not like he takes his time reading his critics. Even God has critics.

Mayweather is excited to come back in the ring. To fight Margarito? Of course NOT!!! Mayweather wants to fight Pacquiao of course he he he. This is according to a report from Mlive.com.

Floyd Mayweather ducks Antonio Margarito and $8 million

Why can't Floyd Mayweather escape the chicken tag? I don't know maybe because HE IS. In 2006, Mayweather in his prime turned down $8 million dollars to fight Antonio Margarito. He said he was injured and Margarito is not a household name (back then) but two years later Mayweather vs Margarito never materialized even when the latter won the welterweight championship over Cotto (Margarito vs Cotto). The Mexican has the credibility to challenge Mayweather now unlike before.

Gee I wonder why cock-a-doodle doo!!! Even if he is not afraid of Margarito, Floyd doesn't want to fight the best. Mayweather has no right to call himself a great boxer because of the long list of fighters he has avoided (Mayweather scared of Cotto
). To be the best you have to beat the best. Despite his delusional claims, Mayweather will never beat the great Sugar Ray Robinson.

Mayweather often wonders why he doesn't get any respect? If he wants to get respect - do it the old-fashioned way by facing and beating the best boxers available not avoiding them and giving flimsy reasons.

Mayweather is a smart boxer though. He only takes on boxers he thinks he can beat.

MAYWEATHER SCARED OF COTTO

the infamous interview

The question was simple would he fight Cotto - his response was classic - HE'D RETIRE HIMSELF rather than Cotto...er boxing retire him. Look at Larry Merchant (the old guy) he can't hide his amusement at the reply. Aging warrior and his uncle Roger's No. 1 Pound for Pound fighter in the World (you can't be no.1 if you haven't boxed in a long time and in a retired state genius), Floyd Mayweather, avoids the Puerto Rican slugger Miguel Cotto by leaving the sport. Cotto is 32-0 and Mayweather 39-0. Their match-up would have been one of the most anticipated in boxing history unfortunately Mayweather retired himself and preferred not to fight Miguel. It is a very smart move - Miguel could give Mayweather the match of his life and Money could possibly lose! Or Floyd is just waiting for bigger offer we'll see as of the moment Floyd is chicken!

Mayweather's excuses...his reasons sorry for the slip
I admire Mayweather don't get me wrong but I was disappointed at his cowardice. Floyd is so talented he can turn the action in the ring on or off in short he dictates the tempo of the match. Nobody ever came close to beating him - that's why when an up and coming boxer who some people say could beat Money popped up I was excited. Instead of welcoming the challenge like a legend that he is - Mayweather retired and came up with disgusting excuses no one is buying except maybe his hardcore fans.

Watch this video and see why it is better for Floyd to retire himself than Cotto retiring him from boxing. It is a smart decision after all! The punching power of Cotto is unbelievable. His body shots are also spectacular! He and Mayweather would make a good match up. Too bad Floyd chickened out.
