2NE1 In Review / To Anyone Oh It's Twenty-One

2NE1 was initially called Sista but after the fans expressed amusement at the name it was discarded.

When I first encountered the term 2NE1 I pronounced it as "to anyone" which makes sense and besides I'm an expert in deciphering messed up text messages I receive from some people. It turned out to be 21 and I was like huh? 2NE1 - New Evolution of the 21st Century that's what 2NE1 stands for --- so it figures.

2NE1 is made up of Sandara and three other dots...Seriously, the three other dots turn out to be Bom (not bum this is not a boxing post), Minzy, and CL. Thanks to their stylists we will never see how beautiful these three girls are.


At this early stage of their career, they're already successful and congratulations to them. The girls are blessed with talented song writers and the songs are catchy...Their first single is called Lollipop - followed by Fire -- both are hits. Their third single is out called "I Don't Care". So far Korea has tons of girl bands (snsd, wondergirls, Kara, 4pm) and competition is fierce. Only the strong shall survive. Good luck to 2NE1 in their musical career!

Allegedly Interscope Records chairman Jimmy Lovine showed interest in the group but knowing the Korean press tendency to blow things out of proportion better be wary of what they are reporting.

The Kwon Yuri Virus: Are You Infected?

I never really noticed Kwon Yuri at first. It was Tiffany, Yoona, Taeyeon and Seohyun who caught my attention initially. I don't know why. Did Kwon Yuri's antifans influence me? She has been all over the news recently and one can't help but notice. Watching her in Gee with the green top mesmerized me too. Wow! The antifans immunity injection got overwhelmed by the Yuri Happy Virus.

Kwon Yuri is nicknamed the Black Pearl by some fans. Maybe personally she is tan. It is not that evident in most of her photos and video shots though. Who is Kwon Yuri anyway and why am I babbling about her? She is the number 3 girl of the nine member girl band Girls Generation SNSD of Korea. Kwon Yuri is a bit hyper and never runs out of energy. Fans tend to joke around her "violent nature". It's not that violent just some girl teasing probably. If anything Kwon Yuri is more of a dork, does something outrageous and laughs at her own mischief. Detractors call her "hypocrite" and the cutesy image she supposedly projects doesn't fit arrogant demeanor. Yuri was at the center of a controversy months back when someone took a photo of her throwing fan gifts and letters in the trash can. It was the only controversy she got involved in. Thank goodness.

As I've said before I never noticed her until the Gee video came out. Yuri really looked hot in that green top (whatever it is). She's fit. Her slightly darker skin color accentuates her beauty to be honest. Ms. Kwon Yuri's strongest point besides her beautiful face and body is her amazing dancing skills. She dances explosively too.

Korean Women Skirts are Getting Shorter...Why is it news again?

Yes,Korean Women skirts are getting shorter. But why did it make the news anyway? I almost fell off my chair when I first read the news item. Yes, Korean women hanging around here do wear shorter skirts than the rest of the native female population and I often wonder how they are looked upon in their country which has a reputation of being conservative. Also, I wondered if they wear very short skirts in Korea too when their parents could see them. It turns out they do too. Korean women in very short skirts made a strong impact it made the news in Chosunilbo.

Miniskirts Get Even Shorter Miniskirts which are so short that passersby feel embarrassed just to see them are hitting the street in Korea in the spring season of 2006. They are not just mini. They are super-miniskirts with their total length less than 25 cm. Such super-miniskirts, which got some 10 cm shorter from 10 years ago, are selling like hot cakes, some 2,500-3,000 units on average a day in G-Market, a local online shopping mall, and Auction, the trading site. They account for some 30 percent of women’s clothes sold. “Miniskirts have been here all the time, but this year it seems they reached the point where they can’t get any shorter,” a buyer of women’s clothes at Hyundai Department Store said. “Just several years ago, only those with long, beautiful legs wore such miniskirts, but these days they have become so popular that almost everyone wears them.”

“In a situation where the nation’s share prices and the number of people living in poverty increase at the same time, the popularity of super-miniskirts has little to do with the economic situation and more to do with celebrities who wear such short skirts and appear on TV,” says Prof. Lee Yun-jung of Gyeongin National University of Education. The time when the Dongdaemun Market and online shopping malls overflow with super-miniskirts and hot pants coincides with a time when female stars like Lee Hyo-lee, Ko So-young and Kim Tae-hee appear in front of the public wearing such garments.

It is still true today at least to some Korean women I see here. Their specialty is either very short skirt or short shorts. Not that I'm picking them out - it is just that most women here don't wear skirts THAT SHORT. The professor is right - Korean women are emulating their favorite stars - and they will stick to it especially if it looks good on them. Actually skirts do make the women look more feminine.

Even Ahn So Hee isn't immune to the trend. This is what she said to a TV show months ago:

"After entering high school, the thing I wanted to do most was wearing my skirt very short. I was jealous of my friends who did that while I couldn’t. Short skirts probably add more confidence to some Korean women. Why not esp. if they can handle it well?

I don't know what I'm going to say. I'm not going to lecture if that's what you're thinking. Besides, I have no right to, try as I might. I sure hope when these Korean women wear their short skirts they know how to sit properly or don't have scars littered all over their legs.

Ahn So Hee is a Wonder Girl indeed!!!

I'm thinking of featuring some Korean cuties in this blog. Not just Korean beauties but also cuties. The description fits Ahn So Hee - the youngest member of the Korean girl band Wonder Girls. When I first saw her I like her...she's very cute. So Hee stood out from her band mates - probably because of her baby face. Due to the intense perfectionism imposed on showbiz people, there are fans who don't like her face because of the baby fat on it. I reckon that's exactly what makes her cute. I don't like gaunt actresses or models for they look unnatural.

In the Korean peninsula, they have a saying that the "ultimate women are in the north..." Intrigued by the saying I searched the net for some collaboration. I mean the Korean women we usually see on TV are beautiful but they are from the South...if the saying is true then the North Korean women should be better looking! (At the investigation of South Korean fans themselves, several of their beautiful female actresses were later discredited as man-made beauties).

Well here are some pics of Korean actress before and after. It seems most of these beautiful women are natural. Song Hye Kyo, Lee Young-ae, Kim Tae Hee, Han Hyo Joo, Eugene, YEH, and Son Ye-Jin are definitely unadulterated beauties - these I could confirm - not that I know them though I wish I do. There are other sources that can corroborate with my statement. Hah..it restored my faith but frankly speaking I always knew my three favorite talents are all natural so I'm at ease (not going to tell who).

One of the most beautiful Asian actress I have ever seen is Song Hye Kyo. I first saw her in the drama Autumn in My Heart - and have been her admirer since. She's the reason I got the strength to endure her male partner in the series Full House (just kidding - don't get angry). She's worth watching though I developed an infatuation towards another young and still beautiful Korean actress I can't forget SHK. People would always say she has a natural beauty but now some pictures came out to dispute the claim.

In Korea it is not uncommon for an actress to have plastic surgery or other medical procedure to magnify their natural beauty. But SHK is not one of those cited. Now these pictures are dividing her fans on what to think about the issue. In this picture, her nose seems to be large and others suggested that she had a nose job. Others think the pictures were stretched so her nose got bigger. What ever it is - I really can't tell nor will I do so if I have formed an opinion! But there's one thing I know Song Hye Kyo still looks pretty to me even if her nose SEEM a bit bigger in her before photo.

Kim Tae Hee's New Commercial

This is the pretty Korean's new commercial. I think her cutesy projection in this ad works well with me although some people didn't like it. They thought she was milking her cutesy image too much. This is not her best commercial as far as I'm concerned. I believe the one where she dances along some hip hop beat is the best for me!

I like this girl - she's very pretty and talented. She studied at Seoul National University so she's smart too. How's that for a triple threat? She reportedly sang on this one too.
