More Pacquiao vs Hatton; Give Manny His Due Respect!!!

The hullaboo in the negotiations for the Manny Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton fight isn't over. Many thought Arum has successfully convinced Pacquiao to accept the deal but last night Manny Pacquiao told the press - it's 60-40 or Hatton can find a new opponent (Who could generate this much cash for him? Good luck with that Ricky!).The proud British won't accept it thinking the world revolves around UK PPV. What about the rest of the world? The non-British fans who know Manny, what about them?

Bob Arum negotiated with Hatton's people and fought to get the UK Pay-per-view rights something which Mayweather reportedly didn't take (it is now clarified that Mayweather got all US PPV share!). I don't know what's with Arum recently instead of working for a better deal with Manny; he got stuck with 50-50. He seems not very enthusiastic pushing for his ward to get a much bigger share. I wonder why when it is obvious Manny Pacquiao has the leverage here. Yes, you hear know-it-all boxing columnists making noises again and most of them are the ones Manny Pacquiao OWNED last December. To be honest, it was Hatton who made it appear he is the next opponent for Pacquiao when the Filipino has many fighters to choose from.

By the way, Manny said anything but 50-50 and not necessarily a 60-40 split - in favor of him of course. Manny wants respect! There are people who accuse him of being greedy. If Manny was greedy, he could've accepted this fight early on. With his statements, there is a possibility this match won't continue. Manny is willing to risk that something a "greedy" person wouldn't do. Branding Manny as greedy is the last resort of some psychologically challenged people who couldn't find anything to throw at the pound-for-pound king anymore. Boxing is a profession. Manny joined it as a source of living. All people in the planet are entitled to pursue what they think is best for them esp if the records show they are entitled to it and not just some personal observation. I don't know why some people are upright about this issue and project a "holier than thou" attitude in the controversy when this is just part of the negotiation process. Grow UP!

"If it’s 50-50, forget about it (the fight)," said Pacquiao, sounding bitter that nobody’s paying attention to his standing as the flag-bearer of the sport.

"Oras na tanggapin ko ang offer na ‘yan, masyado ko namang pabababain ang aking sarili. Nag-paubaya na ako when I fought Oscar De La Hoya last year kaya this time ako naman ang humihiling sa kanila," Pacquiao told the Bulletin yesterday." Manny Pacquiao told Manila Bulletin.

Manny is correct. He deserves more than 50% of the purse.

Pacquiao Per Per View Performance

Pacquiao vs De La Hoya: 1,250,000

Pacquiao vs Marquez II: 405,000

Pacquiao vs Morales I: 340,000

Pacquiao vs Morales II:350,000

Pacquiao vs Barrera II: 200,000

Pacquiao vs Diaz: 250,000

Hatton vs Mayweather: 850,000 (US figures) Result: Loss via Knockout

Hatton vs Malignaggi: 125,000 to 250,000

Numbers don't lie. Who's the bigger draw?

Seven vs Two PPV fights?

Hatton only performed twice in US PPV and he got knocked out in one. Manny Pacquiao as a testament to his popularity has seven PPV fights. In my book, he has every right to ask for more. The guy who was blasted in his first and only PPV fight gets half against a consistent and proven PPV King? Some say "Well Hatton is the champion! He deserves 50-50." Yes, he is the champion of some alphabet boxing organization called IBO. Experts suggested giving a 60-40 split in favor of Hatton for the UK PPV and 60-40 to Manny for the Rest of the World. Yes, Manny is known worldwide now. With such a strong leverage, I can't believe Arum immediately agreed to a 50 - 50 split. What I'm wondering now is instead of backing his fighter up, Bob agreed with Golden Boy Promotions. Gee, what gives? Manny saved Arum's *** months ago after his favorite fighter Kelly Pavlik got schooled. By the way, I hope Margarito loses so Bob will realize who his prize fighter really is.

Manny Pacquiao will not back down on this one.

Update:

Manny Pacquiao rejected a 52 - 48 offer from Hatton insisting it's either 55 - 45 or no deal. "You see they changed their minds." Manny reportedly said. It seems to me the Hatton camp knows who the REAL DRAW is. I wonder why they are so proud of the UK PPV sales against Mayweather when the end result was a humiliating knockout!

Who cares what Arum says? It is Manny's body on the line every time he fights and Marley of BC is right - a boxer's career is short unlike these promoters who last longer than Methuselah. Manny Pacquiao has to look out for himself and ensure he gets the best on offer even if his "manager" doesn't want to do it. It turns out Manny is much smarter than Arum - Pacquiao knows his value. He will not sell himself short just to appease anyone nor flip-flops when pressured. The man is the same in and out of the ring.

Latest Update:

Manny Pacquiao got what he wanted (better than 50 - 50) 52 -48 split plus $ 13 million according to Philippine Star. The choices he was given was:

a. 52 - 48 $13 million

b.55 - 45 $12 million

Hatton's offer was 52-48, $ 12m...

Arum sweetened the pot. English newspapers report otherwise which is normal since they would like to print what they want to believe. Neutral American newspapers such as Los Angeles Times floats a 52 -48 split.

Manny Pacquiao - Ricky Hatton Purse Spat

Some facts regarding the Manny Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton purse spat.

Upcoming lucrative fights

Pacquiao has Mayweather and possibly Cotto. Hatton has Juan Manuel Marquez however Marquez isn't a huge PPV draw. Marquez only thinks he is but he isn't. Only bums are left for Hatton to fight on if he skips this one!

Pay Per View Record (Fights on PPV)

Manny Pacquiao 6 - 1 (4 KOS)
Ricky Hatton 0-1 (via KO)

Supposed leverage

Hatton - could attract 30,000 English fans
Pacquiao could attract the same no. esp. if the fight is held in San Francisco or Los Angeles (credit John Chavez)

Pacquiao is the Top Fighter in the World and No.1 in Pound for Pound Rankings (demoted by BoxingRec to No.11 after his demolishing of Oscar De La Hoya which goes to show
TURDS run BoxingRec).

Hatton has been using record British PPV buys after his match with Mayweather. Boxingscene reported 1.2 - 1.4 million buys for Sky Box Office in the UK alone. In the US, the fight had 850,000 buys. According to fightopinion.com (an MMA site) the buy rate didn't match the expectations.

The Mayweather-De La Hoya PPV drew a reported buyrate of 2.5 million customers. 60% of 2.5 million buys would be 1.5 million buys. The reported buyrate of 850,000 for Mayweather-Hatton would equal 34% of the business (or around one-third) that the 5/5/07 fight did in Las Vegas.

Given the level of hype and expectations by all parties involved going into the fight, the 850,000 PPV buyrate number is way below business expectations.

This even before the world economic crisis. Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar De La Hoya raked in 1.25 million. It also a tad less than what is expected but with the bad economy - it was better.

It seems Mayweather wants to get in the act:

In a separate interview, Pacquiao said he has received the word that former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. is interested in coming out of retirement to fight him.

"Mayweather's camp is making an appeal, they're talking to us. They've talked to my attorney and told him that they're interested in the fight so we're listening to them," he said.

During the Dream Match negotiations, Manny Pacquiao wasn't happy with the revenue split and rejected Oscar De La Hoya's proposal. Pacquiao's rejection was so powerful it even stunned Espn writer Dan Rafael who observed that this must be the first time in a long time De La Hoya is getting a dose of his own medicine. It was only after De La Hoya gave in that Manny agreed to fight him. Manny isn't afraid of Hatton - supposed verbal agreement isn't enough. Make no mistake about it - Manny will not agree to anything if he doesn't like it. He rejected De La Hoya - the undisputed Box Office King of Boxing - before. Manny Pacquiao knows he has many aces up his sleeve. Who has the leverage now?

It seems Hatton's lawyers doesn't know a verbal contract and a business proposal.

The verbal contract that the Hitman camp is talking about does not exist. The 50/50 sharing as agreed upon by Arum and the lawyer of Hatton is the "agreed" upon financial reward of the fight pending the signature of Manny Pacquiao. As such, it only becomes official upon affixing Pacquiao's signature which will become enforceable and binding. Since Pacquiao has NOT signed it yet, then it is not binding. Any negotiation entered into by Bob Arum in behalf of Pacquiao is only enforceable after Pacquiao signs it. It is just a mere "business proposal" subject to the acceptance and signature of the major party involved. SO IT IS IN NO WAY A VERBAL CONTRACT OR A BINDING CONTRACT. WHAT ARUM AND HATTON LAWYER AGREED UPON WAS A BUSINESS PROPOSAL, A PROPOSAL FOR PACQUIAO TO ACCEPT OR REJECT IT. PACQUIAO DOESN'T WANT THE PROPOSAL SO HE REJECTS IT. HE WANTS SOME MINOR CHANGES BEFORE HE SIGNS IT. PACQUIAO OFFERS A COUNTERPROPOSAL. NOW IF THEY DON'T LIKE IT, TO HELL WITH ALL OF THEM. MANNY CAN CHOOSE HIS OPPONENT AND EARN THE SAME AMOUNT.

Gil P. Acosta - Philboxing.com

Is Manny greedy?

When you ask your boss for a raise because you not only feel deserve it but received tangible accolades, is it greed? No. When you fight for what you feel is rightfully yours, is it greed? No. I think it is the old crab mentality at work here.

Athletes ask for raise after an excellent season and knowledgeable sports fan everywhere know that's the reality and don't complain (unless it is very excessive). The problem with some fans here is there are many self-proclaimed saints. Boxing is a profession and a dangerous one. The boxer gambles his safety on the ring. There's no guarantee he'll be 100% safe. There are about 15,000 professional boxers worldwide and if they are in Manny's position I think most of them would do the same.

Is Pacquiao's lawyer greedy?

I would fire my lawyer if he doesn't act on my best interest. Period. Enough with the self-righteous act!

Is Katsidis really famous in the Philippines?

Yes, most people know him as the guy who Casamayor destroyed on national TV.

Update:

After Bob Arum explained the finer details of the contract, it seems Manny's camp are appeased. Manny will get half of the UK PPV. It is something Mayweather failed to get the last time he fought Hatton.

Update May 13, 2009

Purse split 52-50 in favor of Pacquiao, it seems Schaefer and Arum added their share in the pot so as to make Pacquiao approve the fight --- The Philippine Star reported last Friday I think.

Pacquiao vs De La Hoya - Post Fight Wrap Up

For historical purposes I will publish this entry from my journal (with some additions)

Manny Pacquiao demolished Oscar De La Hoya in nine rounds of the welterweight match up in Las Vegas, USA. Manny Pacquiao descredited more than 98% of so-called boxing pundits and made them eat their words and some humble pie. Mayweather Sr., Angelo Dundee and many wannabees got pawned but some of them seem not to get it still. The much vaunted left hook couldn't find its target and Manny Pacquiao's relentless attack "reconfigured Oscar's beautiful face". Repeated head shots made De La Hoya look like jack in the box - his head springing out
after receiving a blow and back again to get more punishment. The fight was so mismatched I thought Manny was fighting David Diaz again.

When the camera panned closely at the two boxers, the size difference was astonishingly huge! Despite my reservations toward the Dream Match, I supported Manny I don't want him to lose like some Filipinos I know (so they would be proven right). In the first few rounds, I was a bit apprehensive and wary of De La Hoya's left but I cheered when Manny punches connected and when he got out of possible trap ODLH set. Relief set in when Oscar De La Hoya was being battered to the pulp I just can't wait to see him fall. By round 7, I can't believe Oscar was still standing - this is boxing - all it takes is one lucky punch. Thank God, none came. My family was ecstatic after Oscar gave up. I cannot believe Oscar gave up.

After the fight, Manny Pacquiao is being compared with all-time boxing greats like Sugar Ray Robinson and Henry Armstrong which is rightly so - anyone who denies this is either a racist or jealous of him. Pacquiao went up from 106 to fight at 147 and beat the guy who used to reign in that division. Say all you want about Oscar but he knew he could handle Manny. Thanks to Pacquiao's speed, Pacquiao made De La Hoya look old and incompetent. I doubt any 106-pounder jumping up to challenge De La Hoya can beat him. Most likely they'll lose their speed. A great victory by Manny - this is the most satisfying boxing match I've EVER seen.

I wonder if some of them made the same mistake in picking Pavlik over Hopkins a month ago. A boxer builds credibility by defying the odds... thank God Manny did it. Pacquiao proved these people wrong... lol. It turns out some so-called experts' guess were as good as ours! Experts...phooey! They only analyzed the obvious. Some of them were being prick about it and THAT DISGUSTED ME enough to bring this issue up.

Some of them don't have a clue on what they are talking about their only advantage they have a website.

So boxing experts, how does it feel getting embarrassed by Manny? LOL

These wannabees will still spew out nonsense in the future but we know better now don't we? Being a boxing expert is a comfortable job since a wrong prediction won't cost them anything. Great job.

The EXPERTS who got it right:

Nick Cafardo, Boston Globe -- Pacquiao by TKO 8
Bill Dwyre, Los Angeles Times -- Pacquiao by decision
Ed Graney, Las Vegas Review-Journal -- Pacquiao by decision
Dave Cokin, ESPNRadio1100 -- Pacquiao by decision
William Trillo -- Pound4Pound.com

Edwin Valero
Roberto Duran
Busta Rhymes
Rashad Holloway
Dennis Guillermo --- 8countnews.com
Joaquin Henson --Philippine Star

Mayweather Sr. said Oscar will rearrange Manny's face he should have seen what Manny did to Oscar. One thing about the Mayweathers, they really hate Manny - a combination of jealousy and racism on their part maybe...since they never really acknowledged him. Manny never said anything bad about Floyd Mayweather. The problem with the Mayweathers is they talk too much but can't back it up. I remember Margarito challenging Mayweather IN HIS FACE yet nothing the guy smiled sheepishly. Floyd won't even fight Cotto or Margarito. Human nature has it that you will take advantage if you think you are better that your opponent. Mayweather has said he is better than those two boxers but never challenged them. I thought you are better than them. Sheesh.

On my part, I was against the Fight but I supported Manny win or lose. You may check the earlier posts and my readers will testify in my behalf.

I still agree that this was a mismatch but I'm glad Manny is just super boxer. I'm happy too that Oscar took the "LOW ROAD" and got punished for it. He thought Manny is easy picking and was rightfully pummeled by the Filipino.

Update:
Manny will take a rest. He will fight again in June either with Hatton or Mayweather. Right now, he will take a long deserved vacation. It's not like he takes his time reading his critics. Even God has critics.

Mayweather is excited to come back in the ring. To fight Margarito? Of course NOT!!! Mayweather wants to fight Pacquiao of course he he he. This is according to a report from Mlive.com.

Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar De La Hoya Rant

Manny PacquiaoManny Pacquiao

This is the prize Manny Pacquiao will get once he defeats Oscar De La Hoya come December 7 - very few people are giving Manny the chance of beating De La Hoya. I'm glad boxing is not a popularity contest. Besides, most of these so-called experts are nothing but quacks anyway. In boxing anything can happen. No one can be 100% sure. Though the match up is far from ideal (why do you think Oscar agreed to this?) I know I will support Manny - win or lose.

The Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar De La Hoya match up was the brainchild of HBO commentator Larry Merchant and no one took it seriously until several months ago. Only when the De La Hoya camp conceded that Manny agreed to this fight. Pacquiao initially rejected it as he didn't like the terms - the guy had nothing to lose anyway while the aging Oscar needs a fight that can restore some of his credibility as a boxer. He doesn't want to fight boxers his size like Trinidad, Margarito or Cotto (it is this cynical attitude Oscar brings to boxing that pisses me off I. I have nothing against him in fact I prefer him to fight either Margarito or Cotto - a much balanced match up for him to say the least). Of course, no boxer would like to end his career with a loss or worse a knock out which would likely happen if Oscar De La Hoya fights those pugs. So in August, the boxers agreed to fight - much to my surprise and chagrin. So it will happen...what was Pacquiao thinking? Why would he fight a guy six inches taller than him? For me it was an obvious mismatch. But what I think doesn't matter anyway. The match was set and all I have to do is to support him.

I wish Manny the best and that he'll be safe come fight night and not do the chicken dance as infantile blogger Ricardo Lois delightfully wished. What bothers me beside Oscar De La Hoya allegedly wearing lingerie (joke) is his six-inch advantage against Manny Pacquiao. How will Manny overcome that? For weeks, reports have been surfacing on how Manny will surmount the problems presented by Oscar. Things are easier said than done.

Many questions will be answered come December 7. Will Manny Pacquiao handle De La Hoya's power and his vaunted left hook? Will the weight loss adversely affect Oscar? Will Manny's speed and power retained as he moved up in weight? Experts have answered these questions but we will all know the answer this Sunday.

This blog has been covering Manny Pacquiao for months already (and for years in my Journal) and I'm glad I get to chronicle the career of the best Filipino boxer at the moment. I'm hoping for the best and I want to see history. Oscar De La Hoya will get nothing if he wins the Dream Match other than prove to the world that he is a bully and probably get some needed ego-boost by beating a small boxer.

Good luck Manny! In taking the challenge of the bigger man, Manny Pacquiao is the only warrior in the ring come fight night.

Note: please excuse this post if it has some grammatical errors as I have no time to review it. Once I review it - the note will be removed. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Pacquiao vs De La Hoya Update II: Pacquiao Freeloaders' Dream

Wow, showing his generosity, Manny Pacquiao spent 27.5 million pesos or $550,000 on tickets to be given away to his friends who will be watching the upcoming Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar De La Hoya Dream Match. These tickets will be handed out to already rich & cheapskate politician and actor friends of him. This is not just any ticket but ringside ones which has a face value of $ 1,500. It doesn't cover the traveling and lodging costs Manny Pacquiao will provide other freeloaders. I think Manny Pacquiao's entourage just increased from 100 to 1,000 after hearing this news. As usual, the politicians expect others to foot their bill whether it is the taxpayers or their businessmen friends.

Last Sunday, Manny Pacquiao's camp gave away 500 turkeys. This time they are giving out $500,000 to TURKEYS.

I hope he knows what he is doing. For I've seen many athletes, rise from poverty to fortune and crash back again due to financial mismanagement - half a million dollars is a huge amount of cash. I will not cite Manny's outreach programs like giving goodies to his provincemates on his birthday as it is for a good cause -- in fact I commend it. But doling out on people who can afford it in the first place is just unconscionable. I wonder how many of these so-called friends will still be there for him when times go bad. In these uncertain economic times, I can't believe $500,000 is given away very conveniently.

Is Pacquiao- De La Hoya Dream Match Rigged?

As a long-time boxing fan, I can say NO. The Pacquiao vs. De La Hoya Dream Match is not rigged! If you ever hear some people say this, please ask yourselves first whether they are really boxing fans or they know at least something in the sport. I heard a lady say boxing matches are rigged the problem was she has no credibility since she couldn't tell an orthodox to southpaw stance. Campbell said earlier if Pacquiao survives after three rounds or something the fix is in. I think Campbell is just jealous or bitter since Pacquiao vs De La Hoya revenues could reach $100 million - a mark even some Hollywood movies couldn't reach in North America alone. Yes, there are boxers who probably fix their fights but no fighter in the level of Pacquiao and De La Hoya would do such thing!

Why do you believe Pacquiao vs De La Hoya isn't a charade?

Both Pacquiao and De La Hoya has made amazing achievements and solidified their legacy in the sport of boxing that throwing it away for a few millions is unbelievable yarn! De La Hoya is a six weight division World Champion - achieved through hard work and toil while Pacquiao is a five weight division World Champion and Pound for Pound King - achieved through hard work and blood. They have done so much that I don't think they would do anything to disrespect the sport of boxing. Boxing made Manny and Oscar rich, famous and respected sportsmen. Respect is something not even money could buy. All the hard work they have done in their entire career would be lost with just one miscalculation such as having a fake match. Besides possible FBI action will be triggered if something like that happens. Joining Tim Donaghiy in jail isn't funny.
Both Pacquiao and De La Hoya wants boxing to be in the limelight of US Sports again that's why they are touring the country and promoting the Dream Match and what a way to do it by having a clean and exciting match.

Some even suggest Manny to dive - to feign a fall with the first weak connecting punch from Oscar - that way he earns millions in just few seconds of work and saving himself from harm. Thinking clearly, what good it would do to Manny's and to the country's reputation? Thanks to Manny our boxers are now given the respect that they deserve. If he dives, Manny will put himself and our country in.....BUT IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. Manny Pacquiao is NOT YET A POLITICIAN (he is an actor though that's another story). Besides, we all know Manny's motivation in boxing. First, it is to earn money and secondly to glorify our country. He will do the best he can do make our country proud. I've seen this before and there's no reason to doubt.

For the record, I will support Manny despite the fact that I don't like this match up in the first place.

Pacquiao vs De La Hoya Update: Margarito Disses Oscar

Pacquiao vs De La Hoya
In the run-up to the Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar De La Hoya Dream Match, Antonio Margarito lashed out against Oscar De La Hoya for chickening out and picking a smaller fighter to fight. Several months ago, Margarito (the current WBA Welterweight champion) challenged De La Hoya for a match but Oscar fled, fearing sure defeat. No I don't believe the latter's excuse.

"Now Oscar is getting brave with a 135-pound fighter and is trying to convince everyone that it's a tough fight. He's getting brave with a great fighter, but a fighter who fights at 135 pounds. He wants to show the world that he can pull the trigger against a 135-pounder. What a man! What a hero!" Margarito told Espn.com today.

As usual Oscar has no response except to beat his chest and tell everyone how brave guy he is when he took on Manny.

Pacquiao vs. De La Hoya
Obviously, Oscar's gun is only effective for small fighters. De La Hoya is COURAGEOUS indeed.

Of course, De La Hoya wants to pad his record a bit. After all, Margarito would crush him. At this phase of his life, he needs all the ego-boost he can have.

Don't get me wrong. Even if I'm against this fight, I will support Manny.

We will keep a close eye on this fight my dear readers 'til the end. Please continue to support this blog. Two days ago, it was confirmed that GMA-7 will cover the fight and I reckon the coverage will last the whole day or just four hours if we are lucky.

Manny Pacquiao's Classic Quotes: Pacquiao vs De La Hoya Six City Tour Highlights

Manny Pacquiao made another classic quote two days ago at the San Francisco Press Conference of the Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar De La Hoya Dream Match on December 6.

This is the Pound for Pound King's response to the Alamo taunt of De La Hoya:

“Yesterday we went to San Antonio and Oscar said, ‘Remember the Alamo!’’’ Pacquiao said. “But you know what? I don’t know what is the story of the Alamo in San Antonio.’’

"Don't just say it. Do it." He added.

The crowd laughed. Hopefully, Oscar will see the Real Manny come Fight Night. This comment beats "Goat is my favorite" quip made by Manny during the Pacquiao vs Diaz press conference months ago. Unfortunately for Diaz, Cubs still got eliminated in the MLB post-season.

It never gets tiring for me writing about Manny. I'm glad I get to cover this guy while he is still fighting.

Pacquiao vs De La Hoya Watch: News, Data, Info...whatever

Pacquiao vs De La Hoya
This is the position Pacquiao wants De La Hoya to be in come fight night - on his a--

The Pacquiao vs De La Hoya Dream Match is getting intense media attention as the week passes by. The Golden Boy Promotions - Top Rank media blitz is working and the campaign first began in New York with Manny and Oscar having a photo-op at the Statute of Liberty. Chicago, Houston, San Antonio followed and at the moment the two boxers are in San Francisco promoting the fight and exchanging juicy sound bites for boxing media both legitimate (Espn, Fox etc) and fly-by-night ones (Ringtalk, Boxingconfidential) to blow out of proportions. So far the fight has been a blockbuster already in terms of ticket sales and fan reception despite the economic crisis facing the United States and the rest of the world at the moment.

Pacquiao vs De La Hoya Press Conference"What about me?" - the late Billy the Goat stewed after Pacquiao-Diaz match

This is the first part of a series featuring
Pacquiao-De La Hoya match up. I will provide more updates and analysis in the build up to the December 6 fight.

Topmost Image note:

I don't want to post disrespectful photo of OLDH but he started trash-talking Pacquiao in San Antonio. “I will knock you out on Dec. 6. I’m telling you this because I want you to remember The Alamo.”

The Alamo is a historic event in American history when OVERSIZED MEXICAN Army (Mexico - where De La Hoya traces his ancestry) of about 6,000 battled the SMALL (180 - 250) Texan volunteers but the latter held out for several days before being defeated. Days later, the avenging Texans ambushed the sleeping Mexicans (they were having their siesta) and captured their President General Sta. Ana LOL. I hope Pacquiao recovers from initial De La Hoya onslaught and beat this "courageous" guy. I don't like this match up from the start and is against it for obvious reasons but I will support Manny still. I'm his fan - win or lose.

SOME JAPANESE WOMEN LIKE FILIPINO MEN

Number of Filipino men married to Japanese women: 117 (2003)

Total No. of Filipino men married to Japanese women: 13,700 (as of 2000)

(I don't intend to write fiction like what Christian Science Monitor did years ago nor am I like Western Men in Asia who think every Japanese women are drooling at them (with disgust is more like it). But in reality, Japanese women don't like Western Men and I don't intend to manipulate data just to prove it. The writer of CSM article watched too many Karate Kid movies. It's a movie. It's fiction for crying out loud.)

Hard is it for some people to believe but it is happening. The Filipino men - Japanese women relationships may not be very visible but it exists and in hundreds too as the numbers above show. These relationships do happen and the numbers don't lie. Why act surprised? Filipino men are not financially well-off but still oozing with charm and appeal (hell yeah!). It is a fact. Live with it.

Our national hero - Jose Rizal - even had a Japanese girlfriend with the name of Osei-san or Seiko Usui.

So three truths are established today

Koreas 2,235
China 890
Phil. 117
Thai. 62
USA 1,529

But considering that the total number of marriages involving Japanese women in 2003 amounted to 712,310, the percentage of Japanese women marrying foreign men amounts to only 1.1% of the total, and the percentage marrying so-called Western men is at most 0.6%. So how you get from this data to the title "WHAT JAPANESE WOMEN WANT--A WESTERN HUSBAND" is really beyond me.

CSM = Fox News = Al Jazeera = Xinhua = KCNA (North Korean News Agency)

THE data about Australians is negligible and was rightly ignored.

  • Japanese do allow their daughters to marry men Filipino men. If you have any problem regarding this: just look at the numbers and do what you have to do.
I hope you are love your Japanese girlfriend because you really love her - no explanation necessary - not for the reason that you have some Japanese women fetish like most Westerners do.

  • Ticket sales reached US$ 17 m last week.
  • The New York press conference was successful today!
  • There's no stopping the meeting between the Pound-for-Pound King vs. The Box Office King despite GAB's misgivings.

CONGRESSMAN RODRIGUEZ'S CALL TO REVOKE PACQUIAO'S BOXING LICENSE INFURIATES PACLAND; IS GAMES AND AMUSEMENT BOARD REALLY DOING ITS JOB?

Can you believe this news? A congressman asked GAB to revoke Manny Pacquiao's boxing license!

The world's top pound-for-pound boxer Manny Pacquiao is "clearly mismatched" with Oscar de la Hoya. That's why Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez wants his license temporarily suspended by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB).

"I don’t think that Manny can even shake Oscar," Rodriguez told GMANews.TV in a telephone interview on Wednesday. "But I’m afraid that Oscar can hurt Manny very badly."

The reactions from PACLAND or Philboxing.com as expected is anger.

Tokikot

If there's anything that needs revoking...it's the "license" of corrupt individuals to run for government posts just to satisfy their greed for money and to further drag down our country towards hell

Jr2quiapo

This two funny guys, both Mr.Rodriguez and Mr. Buhain would help the other Filipino boxers fighting in Thailand...Not this Dream Match!!! this two m----- just want public exposure!!

Some posters were more collected upon reading the news.

Comedian

i admire you for being a good swimmer(butterfly) when i was in elementary, till the day you became GAB chair.but i will not agree with you in your actions. only Manny Pacquiao knows the limitations of his body he will not agree on a boxing match just to be a Dead, Disabled/handicapped multi millionaire. if Manny cant carry Oscars punch he will not continue the fight, he has 3 kids and a preggy wife he still thinks of them together. and GAB you should know that Manny possesses extraordinary ability, dont worry too much kumpare. you are a Filipino you should believe in Manny.

Recah Trinidad's earlier Inquirer column about "Boxing Crimes" must have stung some people to extra vigilance. In the column, Trinidad enumerated Filipino boxers who were sent abroad to be slaughtered because of glaring mismatches:

Joan de Guia, 6-8-2, was knocked out by undefeated Chonlatorn Pinyapinyo, 27-0, in Ayutthaya, Thailand, on Aug. 31. De Guia was dropped by a right hook to the head before he was crushed by another left shot to the body in the third round.

The final word goes to another poster in Philboxing.com

or maybe they just dont want to be blamed if something bad happens to the bout. maybe they just want to show that they are doing their job. they have done it for filipino boxers fighting in thailand so they might as well do it with pacquiao's. i think it wont prosper. its just a publicity stunt. they are washing their hands this early for any untoward incidents

thats just my speculation

Since the call comes from a politician, people thought of it as another grandstanding or attention-grabbing ploy. It means nobody takes politicians seriously in this country. I can't blame the Filipino people though.

Games and Amusement Board (GAB) is a government body in charge of professional boxing matters (among others) in the country, has reportedly registered its opposition to De La Hoya - Pacquiao match as early as July. However, several mismatches between Filipino boxers and Thai ones happened this month (as reported in Philboxing.com) that evaded GAB's radar. Why on earth did Joan de Guia and Jason Lyson got to fight in Thailand despite glaring difference in quality is beyond me! It's GAB's inability to prevent these kinds of fights from happening which leads people to question its sincerity regarding Manny's case. Maybe GAB should pay attention to lesser known Filipino boxers who are more susceptible to exploitation and not focus only on a well-known one thereby getting accused of seeking attention. Justified or not, the agency should prove it is really doing its job.

No offense meant to Mr. Eric Buhain, chairman of the Games and Amusement Board. In fairness to him, he decided not to press the matter too much as it might distract Pacquiao in his training. Thank you very much sir for your understanding.

PACQUIAO VS DE LA HOYA FIGHT IS SET ON DECEMBER 6

Manny Pacquiao - The Pound for Pound King according to The Ring Magazine
the most credible boxing magazine

Manny Pacquiao, in a statement to Philboxing.com, said he agreed in principle to accept the December 6 fight against Oscar De La Hoya despite the latter's height and heft advantage. Details of the Pacquiao - De La Hoya match up will be disclosed tomorrow.

This is the link to Pacquiao's official statement - Philboxing.com.

So the BOX OFFICE KING MEETS THE POUND FOR POUND KING. The courageous ODLH (avoided Margarito for "patriotic" reasons) said he will be avenging Mexico (according to Philboxing)

De La Hoya stressed he’d love to pay Pacquiao back, big time, for his wrecking of a roster of Mexican fighters including legends Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik “El Terrible” Morales.

Brave man indeed like Bravo! As in Commander Bravo!

Who would have thought that Pacquiao-De La Hoya would come to fruition? Unbelievable.

DE LA HOYA VS PACQUIAO: ALMOST OFFICIAL?

Tsk tsk tsk...This news comes not just from any boxing site but from a reputable sports news organization.

At 4 p.m. Wednesday, a contingent from Top Rank, led by CEO Bob Arum, will arrive at the Los Angeles offices of Golden Boy Promotions to begin -- and hopefully finalize -- negotiations with Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer for a December welterweight bout between Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Paquiao.

While the results of the negotiations are not considered academic, Schaefer told SI.com on Tuesday that the odds were "70-30" that a deal would get made while a high-ranking HBO executive said that the network was holding Dec. 6 "specifically for Pacquiao-De La Hoya."

In other words, don't expect any last minute announcement that Pacquiao will be replaced by WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito, who established himself as the premiere fighter in the division last month when he stopped Miguel Cotto in the 11th round.

But Schaefer also may be covering for what has become obvious to many in boxing's inner circle: De La Hoya does not want to end his career a bloody mess and flat on his back -- two very probable outcomes for the Golden Boy in a matchup with Margarito.

Need I say more?

What if ODLH beats Manny?

De La Hoya-Pacquiao will be captivating and worth watching. But even if De La Hoya beats Pacquiao, he'll have only beaten a fighter who is two weight classes out of his league. Just as quickly as it happened, it will be forgotten.

By the way De La Hoya pick on somebody your own size!!! There's a worthy challenger by the name of Antonio Margarito calling you out. Yeah I thought so shades of Mayweather...chicken! And for Pacquiao - I hope you know what your doing...if the fight pushes through I'll pray for your safety.
