Cowboy Bebop Live Action Movie: It Better Be Good

"If the script is terrible, the live-action film adaptation will not be approved." This is a warning from Sunrise (anime studio) president Kenji Uchida to 20th Century Fox about the upcoming Cowboy Bebop Live Action movie starring Keanu Reeves as Spike Spiegel. Who would blame him after the Dragonball Evolution fiasco (remember the movie?). The movie was reportedly so bad there were jokes floating around that Akira Toriyama (Dragonball creator) had to send out apology letters to outraged fans. Sunrise insists it will have quality control on this Cowboy Bebop Live Action movie. It also helps that Keanu Reeves is a big fan of the anime - it means he actually cares about the finished product (hopefully). He visited Japan twice and got Sunrise to approve the project. Leaving nothing to chance Kenji Uchida, the series' director Shinichiro Watanabe and writer Keiko Nobumoto will serve as associate producers. Masahiko Minami, the series producer, will serve as production consultant.

"It’s got a Western quality, a Western film noir aspect to it. It’s got so much style to it, and that’s part of its appeal. That kind of Old West, bordertown, low-tech science fiction aspect." Reeves told MTV Movies Blog last December.
So what part of the Cowboy Bebop story will the live action movie tell? "We’re taking the Red Eye [story], the beginning part of the series,” he explained, “and then we’ll deal with the end of the series. We’re trying to figure out [the time frame]. We’re looking at the story right now.”

It better be good as per experience most anime remakes are epic failures. Hollywood has a poison that destroys a well-written anime like Dragonball. I hope the Cowboy Bebop Live Action movie stands out for being well-written, and attain cult status like the Matrix.

Cowboy Bebop is an anime about a group of Space Cowboys or bounty hunters tracking criminals in a futuristic world.

I will share some thoughts regarding the Dragonball Evolution fiasco soon.

----------------Update:

Faye Valentine is TBD. I do hope they get a great one!

from what iv heard this film has hope. i admit when i first heard a live action film of the series was coming and keanu reeves was going to be cast as spike i was skeptic. but after consideration i think yea sure why not he is a fan of the series so im sure hell do his best to "be" spike. i just hope they can stay true to the series and really take a look at what its made of because its not just the charecters that make it what it is, music has a huge influence on the story. personally i think they can do much more if they chose the jupiter jazz sessions but i guess they know what there doing ........... i hope

I agree Jak. It is a great anime series and it deserves the best live action remake as much as possible.

I agree with Jak too and I'm a lot happier about it now that Sunrise is taking a more active role. I'll freely admit I was horrified by the idea when it was just Hollywood and I think I'm getting used to the idea of Keanu as Spike.
